Driver There is no more permanent speed secret than improving the driver. Parts wear out and break. Racecars are bought and sold. You are the one constant, and if you’re faster, so is every car you drive. So don’t forget about spending money on self improvement. Coaching is probably the best way to achieve this for $1000 or less. The Ford Racing High Performance 42 Driving School based at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah offers one-on-one advanced private coaching. You’ll get personal attention from one of the school’s champion instructors, including data analysis, video review and an on-track van session. If it’s help with the Mid-Ohio track itself before the National Championships that you need, The Mid-Ohio School offers a Track orientation/Competition School for $700. The instructors will show you around the track on foot, conduct lead/follow lapping sessions, take you on ride-alongs and review in-car camera footage. It’s an opportunity to get an intimate view of the track. There’s another way to spend money to help yourself be faster: buy a gym membership and some time with a personal trainer. That’s an unpopular suggestion, but being in shape can make a huge difference at the end of a race, even moreso at the end of a long stint in an enduro.
